Is an Intervention Necessary?

An Important Question

Several families have recently reached out to Heartland Intervention, with the same question: Is an intervention necessary? It’s common to wonder about this when you are concerned or troubled by a loved one’s substance use or addiction. And the answer is not the same for every family.

Heartland founder Scott J. Watson meets with families to learn more about the patterns of use, medical, psychiatric, vocational and legal history- previous treatment history and more. This allows us to craft the best possible response.

What NOT to Do

Before meeting with us- most families have tried begging a person to go to treatment. Many have also yelled, screamed and cried during those conversations. That didn’t work.

Intervention is not about just approaching or confronting a loved one with a substance abuse problem. Rather it is about having the whole family and support system rally around a comprehensive plan of action. Heartland Intervention specializes in working with families who want their loved one to choose treatment for their alcohol or drug use.

Family Intervention

Every week, people reach out to Heartland Intervention, LLC concerned about a loved one or family member’s drinking or drug use.  Some families have spent years walking on egg shells or trying to ignore addiction.  For others, the prospect of loving someone who struggles with substance use or addiction is a new and scary reality.

Indiana Intervention Leader

While not everyone who struggles with substance abuse needs an intervention, Heartland Intervention takes pride in coming along side of families during this important and uncertain time.  As a leader in intervention services in Indiana and beyond, we provide service that is professional, credentialed, affordable and caring.

Intervention Process

Many families considering intervention are surprised to learn that intervention is a process and not an event.  Often it begins with a consultation either in our office or on the phone.  This is designed to answer questions and make sure that intervention is appropriate for the family.  While we use the leverage of surprise, our interventions are always loving, respectful and free of any anger or resentment on the part of the team.

Once an intervention agreement is signed, a comprehensive assessment in conducted in an effort to learn as much as we can about the identified patient.  This information is used to make recommendations about a treatment center that will be a good fit clinically and socially.  During this time, we assist the family in selecting a team of individuals-including at least one wild card- to be present at the intervention.

According to the methadone clinic dallas, drug addiction and alcohol problems usually come with a high degree of denial, depression, anxiety and anger.  During the intervention planning meeting, we address how these and other objections will be handled.  This is also the time when families are able to finally take action in support of recovery and standing against the status quo.  Families tell us that while emotional, these meetings help the family to heal.

Does Intervention Work

Over 85% of those we have intervened on go to treatment directly from the intervention.  Of the 15% that have not- over 65% have gone to treatment within the next 14 days.  That is a remarkable success rate.  Remember however, those are not just numbers.  They represent lives, families, parental rights, jobs and freedom saved from the hopeless life of addiction.

Don’t wait.  If you have a loved one struggling with drug use, alcohol use or more, call Us at 317-752-8811.  Our founder Scott J. Watson is a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC), Master Addictions Counselor (MAC), Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and DOT qualified Substance Abuse Professional (SAP).  He is formerly a Board Registered Interventionist who looks forward to talking to you.  As Scott says, “I have a front row seat to see lives saved and families change.”

About Hitting Bottom

Heartland Intervention, LLC

The primary recovery text and families across the country have sounded a similar theme about those who struggle with alcohol and drug addiction.  They must hit bottom.  But what is to be said when a person’s bottom means losing a job, a spouse, a child, their freedom, health or even their life?  It is rarely wise for a family to stand by, waiting for a loved one to hit a devastating bottom.

Heartland Intervention recently worked with great family that was worried a member’s drinking.  His employer expressed concern that had been echoed by the family for years.  For some, “Danny” had not yet hit his bottom.  But intervention is about raising a person’s bottom by getting them into treatment before any more damage is done.  Danny’s intervention went well and he gratefully completed 30-day residential treatment.

Heartland Intervention is recognized as a leader in the field of intervention services,  assessment and recovery.  Our affordable and  loving approach to intervention coupled with our very high success rate make us the choice of many concerned about their loved one.  While we are based in Indiana, Scott J. Watson travels throughout the country conducting interventions and facilitating entry into treatment.

Left untreated, addiction always gets worse.  Don’t wait for them to hit a catastrophic bottom.  Many people have told us that intervention day was actually one of the BEST days of their life.  Call us today at 317-752-8811.  We look forward to listening and helping.

Choices

Lost the Ability to Choose

When addicts and alcoholics are actively using, they seem to have lost the ability to choose.  One person said, “I was using against my own will.”  Many have said they wouldn’t have known how to stop even if they had wanted to.  Drinking or drug use just becomes a way of life until the person’s world grows smaller and smaller.  That’s why at Heartland Intervention, we always want to remind folks that there is a way  out.

Family Choices

It is horribly painful to watch a loved-one melt into a life where alcohol or drug use swallows the person.  The slowly become more distant, less honest and more angry.  Before long, the family feels that they have lost the person.  They are angry, scared and not sure what they can do to help.  They are afraid any action will make things even worse.  That is the blessing of intevention.  An intervention allows the family the support and structure they need to help their family member find the way out.  It is a loving and structured way to support a person’s recovery and offer an alternative to the lost family member.

Sober Choices

Once a person gets clean/sober the ability to choose is restored as well.  In recovery, a addict learns that all she has to do today is the “next right thing”.  Because early sobriety can be overwhelming, the simplicity of doing “the next right thing” is a useful tool that builds confidence and honors the second chance that the addict has been given.  It also is a way to honor the family for helping to save a life through the intervention process.

It can be argued that the most powerful trait that a human can possess is the ability to choose.  Yet substance abuse and fear can rob even the most loving and caring person. Loving choices can save a life and a family.  Heartland Intervention exists to help families and individuals when the stakes matter most.  Call us today at 877/752-8811.
